From recent grads to being named to PDN’s 30 and also receiving a McKnight Fellowship, Minneapolis photographers Jenn Ackerman and Tim Gruber of Ackerman + Gruber, will speak about their young careers and making their collaborative work. They will talk about pursuing and funding personal projects and the importance these projects have in keeping both you and your work fresh. Along with sharing their personal work they will address how these projects have led to commissioned work. They will also speak on finding the balance between motion, editorial, fine art and commercial photography.

Still in the early stages of their profession, they will talk about the value of contests, grants and fellowships and how they have helped to launch their careers. For the last six years the two have collaborated on projects and worked across various media platforms to maximize the exposure to their work. The two will share the creative and business aspects of their partnership.

Their work has been described as colorful, genuine, full of life, and respectfully intimate by editors, art directors and curators around the country. They take an authentic approach to their work and specialize in providing images of real people to advertising, corporate and editorial clients. They pride themselves in creating a narrative in every photo they take whether it’s a single image or a series of photos.

Their work has been honored by the Communication Arts Photography Annual, American Photography, PDN Photo Annual, Review Santa Fe Center Project Competition, Photolucida’s Critical Mass, and many others. Their most recent documentary film won an Emmy.
